'Moving Your Message' Recap: C.H.O.I.C.E. Uses...
Since 2003, C.H.O.I.C.E. Inc. has helped 135 teenagers and 40 adults from poor communities get high school diplomas. (And in some cases, even go to prom!) By teaming up with an accredited online curriculum, C.H.O.I.C.E. was able to offer students the opportunity to take classes by simply logging on. The organization has also made use of social networks like Facebook to spread the word.

Congrats to DevelopmentSeed
Last week, the Knight Foundation awarded DC-based DevelopmentSeed one of twelve Knight News Challenge awards for Tilemapping which will “help local media create hyper-local, data-filled maps for their websites and blogs. Journalists will be able to tell more textured stories, while residents will be able to draw connections to their physical communities in new ways.”

Center for Inspired Teaching Enters "Moving Your...
Through a critical Washington Post article, the Center for Inspired Teaching gained tons of visibility. The article, “What Makes a Teacher Great? ” not only attracted volunteers and students who wanted to work with the Center, but it also won the Center an interview on WAMU 88.5!

The Roundtable’s Think Twice Before You Slice campaign helped Loudoun Cares turn 15% in projected budget cuts to a 10% increase in funding! Through the Roundtable’s advice on how to influence legislators, Loudoun Cares swayed several elected officials and showed them the value of supporting their county’s nonprofits.

Tahirih Justice Center has benefited from earned media to raise awareness around the plight of women and girls fleeing human rights abuses. In 2004, Tahirih won the first lawsuit in the U.S. against a mail order bride agency, receiving attention from FOX, CNN, NPR, and Newsweek. This led Congress to pass the first law EVER regulating the mail order bride industry!

During the 2009 National Epilepsy Awareness Month, the Epilepsy Foundation took advantage of creative media in alerting the public about the realities of the disease. Through a Twitter campaign in which people submitted personal anecdotes, the Foundation not only had tweeters tweeting- the Foundation earned over 200 media mentions AND got celebrities and congress talking!
